This is our five-piece set paired with the larger of the two drawer organizers. The tray runs 8.67 inches deep instead of 6.3, and that extra width buys ten slots rather than seven: three for 8-inch blades, six for short ones, and a last channel that holds a sharpening stone. Pick this version if your drawer is deep and you own more knives than the five that arrive with it.

Anatomy of the tool

Set

Five knives, sized for the wide tray

The knives are identical to our narrower pairing: chef, santoku and bread at 8 inches, a 6-inch boning knife, a 5-inch utility. What changes is the furniture around them, and with ten slots the set takes up half the tray instead of most of it.

Storage

Ten slots and a channel for the stone

Three long slots, six short ones, and a dedicated space for a sharpening stone so it stops sliding around under the cutting boards. The insert still lifts clear in a second and leaves a full-size cutlery tray behind.

Pairing

Six short slots against your drawer depth

The trade for that capacity is 8.67 inches of depth rather than 6.3, so measure the drawer before choosing this one. If it fits, six short slots swallow a full run of steak knives alongside the boning and utility blades.

Handle

Ergonomic grips, five for five

Each blade carries full-tang construction under a contoured handle, so the heavier 8-inch knives do not nose down as you lift them out of a slot. The balance stays near your hand whether you grabbed the bread knife or the utility.

From the sharpening bench

Keep the stone channel for the stone, not for a sixth knife. A loose stone grinding against blade spines in a moving drawer scuffs more steel than it ever sharpens.
