Cotton gives up well before the oven does. These silicone mitts hold at 500 degrees F, with separate finger slots rather than a sealed mitten shape, so you keep enough dexterity to turn a rack or lift a grill grate. The cleaver sharing the box is 7.5 inches of blade at 0.14 inch thick and 1.26 pounds, which is the mass that makes bone work possible in the first place.

Anatomy of the tool

Pairing

Five hundred degrees and a pound and a quarter

This is the cleaver version of our mitt bundle, where the other one carries an 8-inch chef knife. The cleaver breaks the cut down and the mitts move it in and out of the heat, which covers both ends of a roast or a rack of ribs.

Heat

Fingers, not a mitten shape

The glove is molded with individual finger slots and a textured surface, so it grips a hot handle the way a hand does. A 5.5-inch cuff covers the wrist, which is the part that finds the top element of an oven first.

Blade

Weight doing the chopping

At 1.26 pounds with a 0.14-inch spine, this cleaver falls through what a lighter knife would have to be forced through. Disjointing, thick carving and bone go to it, and the spine is the face you smash with.

In Use

Grill, oven, air fryer, board

Silicone handles the sources cotton struggles with: air fryer baskets, BBQ grates, a baking sheet straight off the rack. The cleaver covers the prep before all of it, so one box carries a cookout from raw primal to serving.

From the sharpening bench

Rinse the mitts and turn them inside out to dry, and wipe the cleaver down before storing it: a heavy blade left damp will spot along the spine where water sits.
