Four is the number most tables need. This is the smallest build of our 4.72-inch serrated steak knife, matched in silver, for the household that sets two or four places and does not want a block of eight taking up a drawer. German high-carbon stainless, micro-serrated edges, and a 9.45-inch overall length split evenly between blade and handle so the knife sits level in the hand.

Anatomy of the tool

Set

Four places, no spares

This is the weeknight count: two people with a knife each and two in the drawer for guests. Nothing here differs from our larger builds except how many knives come in the box and what the box is for.

Edge

Micro-serrations on a silver blade

The teeth are small enough that the cut looks sliced rather than sawn, which matters on a medium-rare strip steak where a coarse serration drags juice across the plate. They stay useful long past the point a plain edge would want a stone.

Handle

Level in the hand at the table

The 50/50 split puts the balance point at the bolster, so the knife pivots on your fingers instead of nosing down into the plate. The non-slip grip handles steak fat better than a smooth metal handle does.

In Use

Dinner for two, scaled up twice

Steak is the headline, but four knives cover a bread basket, a roast chicken, pizza night and a cheese board. For a table of six or more, the larger sets in this series exist for a reason.

From the sharpening bench

Load them point-down in the basket so the teeth never rest against another utensil. Serrations do not get honed back; they get replaced.
