Our fullest drawer set, in silver. Nine knives and a sharpener rod sit in an organizer block that tucks under a cabinet or inside a drawer, and the blades are multi-element composite stainless, forged German high-carbon at HRC 58. It ships in a gift box, which is the honest reason this is the version bought for someone else rather than for the kitchen it finally ends up in.

Anatomy of the tool

Set

Eleven pieces counted out in silver

The silver lineup runs 8-inch chef, 8-inch bread, 8-inch slicing, 5-inch utility, 3.5-inch paring, four steak knives and a sharpener rod. Same count as our black 11-piece, a different block, and it arrives in a gift box.

In Use

Where the 8-inch slicer earns its slot

A chef knife can carve a roast and a slicing knife can chop an onion, but neither does the other job well. The 8-inch slicer is narrow for a reason: long clean strokes through brisket, ham, or a loaf of roast beef.

Storage

Under a cabinet or inside the drawer

This block is built to be put away rather than displayed. It slides into a drawer or tucks under a cabinet, and the spare slots take spoons, peelers and scissors, so one purchase clears two kinds of clutter.

Care

Still rust-free after a thousand washes

The non-stick German steel rinses spotless without soaking, and the block only asks for a wipe. Both are built to stay rust-free and look new past a thousand washes, which is several years of ordinary home cooking.

From the sharpening bench

Unpack the gift box but hold on to it. The tray is the safest way to move a loaded knife set if the kitchen gets remodeled or the set changes houses.
