Black is the color we send out to the patio. The build is the family standard, heavy-duty silicone over cotton with individual finger slots, but outdoor cooking is the scenario it handles best: grate bars, foil packets, a chimney starter radiating from a foot away. Soot and sauce land on it constantly and the dark shell simply does not keep a record of them.

Anatomy of the tool

In Use

Built for the grate, not just the oven rack

Outdoor cooking is harder on a mitt than baking. Grate bars, foil packets and a chimney starter all put out more heat than a casserole dish does, and the black shell does not announce every soot mark it collects.

Material

Black silicone over a cotton liner

Heavy-duty silicone on the outside, cotton against your skin. The silicone is what blocks heat up to 450 degrees F, and the cotton is what makes the glove comfortable to keep wearing through a long batch.

Heat

Picking up where a cotton mitt quits

A plain cotton mitt is fine until the pan is genuinely hot, then heat walks straight through it. This one is engineered for high-temperature work, which is why it suits grilling and air frying rather than only carrying a dish to the table.

Care

Waterproof shell, so sauce comes off

Barbecue sauce is the test case. The silicone side is completely waterproof and the surface repels grease, so a wipe or a swish in soapy water lifts the mess off instead of grinding it in deeper.

From the sharpening bench

Wash the mitt after a grill session while it is still warm. Rendered fat lifts off silicone easily at that point and turns stubborn once it cools and sets.
